Teen twee country sensation Taylor first picked up the guitar age 10 with, somewhat bizarrely, a computer repairman teaching her her first the chords. By the age of 12, she was writing her own songs. Bullied at school, Taylor used songwriting as an outlet for her emotional pain, and still does – she’s renowned for penning songs about her real life relationships and break-ups.
At the age of 14, Taylor and her family relocated to Nashville to be closer to the country music scene. That same year she became the youngest ever songwriter on the books at Sony/ATV Tree Publishing House. She was signed to Big Machine Records at age 15 and released her debut album in 2006, which went multi-platinum. It was with her second album, Fearless, that she really hit the big time and gained international fame, as well as 4 Grammy’s.
As proof of her mainstream crossover success, Taylor was the only country artist to feature in Rolling Stone’s Queens of Pop list in 2011. At the last count, Taylor’s albums have sold in the region of about a bazillion copies.
Taylor has since gone on to have her MTV Video Music Award grappled from her poor, confused hands by Kanye West, branched out into acting with roles in Hannah Montana: The Movie and CSI, and has dated Joe Jonas, Taylor Lautner, and John Mayer.
In 2011 she was unceremoniously dumped by Jake Gyllenhaal, over the phone. Ouch. Expect a weepy anti-Gyllenhaal country anthem soon folks.
